The Applied Research, Innovation and Economic Development Directorate invites applications for the position of Research Associate to work on of the UDST Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project in collaboration with Qatar Shell Research & Technology Centre.

Responsibilities

The selected candidate will contribute to the development 3D printing filaments from recycled materials to formulate glass reinforced 3D printed parts with superior properties for the oil and gas industry. This will include material extraction from recycled components, material formulation, process tuning for filament extrusion/printing in addition to material characterisation and product design to demonstrate the capabilities of the developed filaments.

The associate will develop a detailed workplan from the project proposal and will be responsible to arrange weekly meetings which includes project partners, in addition to conducting experimental work at different sites of the project partners facilities to fulfil the project aims.

Applicants must hold a minimum of master’s degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, manufacturing or material science with minimum of 3 years of professional experience in academia or industry working on projects related to developing multidisciplinary systems which include process development and material formulation.

 

Skills

The candidate must have strong attainment of skills to learn in new fields, and should be willing to obtain and develop commercial, administrative and management skills. The candidate should have hands-on experience with filament extrusion and/or plastic recycling technologies. Experience with mechanical testing equipment and material characterization is essential. The successful candidate should have excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail in addition to strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
