University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) was officially established by the Emiri Decision No13 of 2022, and it is the first national university specializing in academic applied, technical, and professional education in the State of Qatar. The College of General Education provides a range of core courses common to all students of the University, in subject areas that support the academic structure of the undergraduate programs. The General Education Curriculum is designed around courses in mathematics, natural sciences, research methods, English communication, social sciences, humanities and the arts, aimed at developing students’ understanding of fundamental scientific concepts and their applications.

 

To enhance its curriculum in Chemistry and applied interdisciplinary learning and teaching, the College of General Education invites applications for a Chemistry Lab Instructor, starting in August 2025.

Reporting to the Department Head, the ideal candidate should be a creative and innovative individual with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in effective teaching. The candidate will plan, develop, and deliver laboratory courses in chemistry, such as General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Health Sciences Chemistry, Biochemistry, as well as other science lab courses to support the institution's programs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

 

  • Master’s Degree in Chemistry or applied chemistry from a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of prior full-time teaching experience within higher education institutions in an English-speaking institution, with a focus on instructing chemistry Laboratory courses.
  • Strong knowledge of Chemistry principles and laboratory techniques.
  • At least three (3) years of prior full-time teaching experience within higher education institutions, with a focus on instructing chemistry laboratory courses.
  • Demonstrate reliability, responsibility, and flexibility in managing the teaching and learning environment. 
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English; interpersonal skills that contribute to a healthy workplace environment.
  • Collaborative and collegial spirit and a demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and helping students learn.

The candidate will plan, develop, and deliver laboratory courses in chemistry, such as General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Health Sciences Chemistry, Biochemistry, as well as other science lab courses to support the institution's programs.

 

The role expectation of the Chemistry Lab Instructor are as follows:

 

  1. Prepare and set up laboratory experiments, ensuring equipment and materials are readily available.
  1. Managing laboratory experiments and activities, ensuring students' safety and adherence to proper laboratory procedures.
  2. Instructing students on experimental techniques, theory, and safety protocols and offering guidance on data collection and analysis.
  3. Evaluating students' laboratory reports, assignments, and performance and providing feedback on their work.
  4. Holding office hours to assist students with questions, concerns, and clarifications related to laboratory work and assignments.
  5. Assisting in developing and maintaining laboratory curriculum, including updating experiments and materials as needed.
  6. Ensuring the laboratory complies with safety regulations, maintaining a safe environment, and training students on laboratory safety.
  7. Maintaining a clean and organized lab environment, including proper disposal of hazardous materials.
  8. Overseeing equipment and instrumentation in the laboratory, ensuring proper maintenance, and coordinating repairs or replacements when necessary.
  9. Handling administrative tasks such as record-keeping, inventory management, and scheduling laboratory sessions.
  10. Collaborating with the team to prepare a comprehensive list of lab materials, equipment, and reagents required for practical labs.
  11. Staying updated on the latest advancements in chemistry and teaching methodologies through

ongoing professional development.

  • Contributing to UDST activities and initiatives, including assignments to committee work related to curriculum, assessment, student success, and community outreach. 
  1. Attending department meetings and training sessions as required.
  2. Other tasks as may be assigned by the Department Head.
