Responsibilities

UDST is looking for a talented Materials or Chemical Engineer to join our team. As a Materials Engineer, you will collaborate with other departments, external suppliers, and customers to assist in the day-to-day processing and prototyping of a material; conducting laboratory analysis including managing laboratory equipment and consumables, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and collaborating with other departments, and external suppliers.  

 

The ideal applicant for this role will be able to understand and master the art of modifying materials to meet specified standard requirements and qualities. Also, the candidate should become proficient in operating laboratory equipment such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Electron Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), Digital Light Microscopy, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Liquid Chromatography (LC), Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC/SEC), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and other related instruments.

 

Essential Duties:

 

  • Develops new methods and techniques for analyzing samples
  • Keeps accurate records of experimental results, and interprets and analyzes data
  • Communicates test results with the reasrch team to ensure quality satisfaction
  • Facilitates and promotes the use of appropriate problem-solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and successful corrective action
  • Manages and maintains laboratory equipment, including calibration, repair, and preventative maintenance.
  • Coordinates ordering and inventory management of laboratory consumables and reagents.
  • Establishes and maintains supplier connections, including vendor technical contacts
  • Serves as the focal point person for the Boulder site in coordinating and leading the introduction of new analytical instruments.
  • Maintains current knowledge of new analytical techniques and instrumentation.
  • Adheres to laboratory safety protocols
  • Coordinate with technicians and ensure calibration of analytical instruments. 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability (KSA):

  • Analytical and data driven
  • Knowledge of
    • Statistical Process Control
    • Design of Experiments
    • Measurement Systems Analysis
    • Statistical Softwares desired
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory equipment and procedures, including calibration and maintenance
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and prioritize effectively 
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and problem solve
  • Proven ability to connect professionally and effectively with the research team. 

Education or Formal Training:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, Materials Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, or related technical discipline

Experience

  • A minimum of two years of hands-on expertise with a variety of laboratory instruments and techniques is required
  • A minimum of two years' experience in the chemical business is preferred
  • Experience introducing new goods and transferring products from R&D to a desired application 

Working Environment

 

  • Works with various laboratory substances and around analytical equipment in the laboratory.
  • Able to work independently.
