Responsibilities

Your Commitment

The selected candidate will contribute to the synthesis and characterization of diverse quantum materials, encompassing transition metal dichalcogenides, innovative superconductors, and two-dimensional ferromagnets. Emphasis will be placed on investigating phase transitions within these materials, as they can be manipulated by external parameters. Special attention will be given to quantum materials with relevance to energy applications, such as superconductors and magnetic materials. Specifically, the prospective candidate will play a key role in advancing research to identify new materials and explore innovative methods to enhance superconducting performance, pushing the boundaries of current technology. Responsibilities include conducting tests using state-of-the-art laboratory equipment. The successful candidate will engage collaboratively with researchers and stakeholders, including local and international collaborators and institutions, in alignment with the goals of the project.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics, Material Engineering, or closely related disciplines from a reputable university. Successful candidates should possess a proven record of scholarly achievements and a demonstrated excellence in research. Proficiency in handling pressure cells for Raman, Magnetic, X-ray diffraction, and transport studies is essential, along with expertise in software, electronics, instrumentation, and machinery development.

The candidate should be able to prepare single crystals and thin films of the highest quality for various substitution series, enabling precise exploration of the electronic phase diagram as a function of doping. Experience in operating laboratory equipment and low-temperature apparatus is crucial. Fluency in both written and spoken English is mandatory, while proficiency in written and spoken Arabic is considered an advantageous asset.

 Preferable research experiences

  • Significant experience in condensed matter physics in extreme conditions including high pressure
  • A good publication record of the position-related papers published in peer-reviewed journals
  • Ability to work effectively as a part of a multi-disciplinary research team, and to carry out independent individual research to meet project goals
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills
  • Experiences in scientific writing for preparation of scientific papers for publication and presentations for meetings and/or conferences
  • Outstanding hands-on skills, strong computational and problem-solving skills, and a high level of analytical ability
  • Proficiency in crystal growth and ability to deal with various data collection, analysis, and interpretation
  • Willingness to cooperate and support other researchers in the research lab
  • Experience in working with a team of researchers and supervising undergraduate students

Skills

Proficiency in crystal growth for 2D materials is crucial to address existing limitations in sample quality. This involves employing a range of techniques, from diverse methods of polycrystal preparation to advanced approaches for single-crystal growth. Mastery of these skills is imperative for selecting systems in which to explore novel ground states.
